There was no better advocate, volunteer, cheerleader, or friend than Paula. She was an avid member of several organizatio
ns that not only fed her soul but had a goal of bettering the community of Lawrenceburg. In 2019, Paula rallied together some of her closest friends and fellow advocates and founded the organization, Shelter Friends. Shelter Friends was formed to bring needed support to the local Shelter, Anderson County Animal Care and Control. That support included medical bills for the resident animals, bedding and toys for comfort, treats for emotional support and mental enrichment, adoption and rescue resources, educational tools and always a listening ear to the shelter staff who voiced their concerns, frustrations and vision for the shelter.
Paula was able to build a large fenced in area called the Wiggley field, in honor of her late mother, where members of the community without a fence had a secure area to bring their dogs for play and exercise. It also serves as a meet and greet area for potential adopters and shelter dogs and a break away from the kennel environment for the dogs at the shelter and humane society. She also donated two outdoor kennels under cover for dogs to be able to enjoy some time outside on the nastier days and revamped the local shelters dog room. She, of course, used her love and knowledge of gardening to bring some color and life to the Shelter.
We lost our beloved Paula in 2021 and have a mission to carry on her legacy and vision. The Bourbon Tails Cat Cafe is a tribute to Paula and the work she did for Anderson County animals and the community. Without Paula none of this would be possible!
If you would like to donate in Mrs. Paula's honor, you can do so here. All donations given in Mrs. Paulas name will go into our spay and neuter fund to fight the overpopulation of Anderson County animals as she would want.
